Position Overview:
Person will be responsible for identifying, developing and implementing software solutions. This will include working with process owners to identify continuous improvement opportunities and develop software solutions to support process effectiveness and efficiencies. Individual will also be accountable for managing projects and software throughout their respective lifecycles.

Roles and Responsibilities
This position has responsibility and authority for: Directly participate in the analysis, configuration, modifying and implementation of IT Business Systems.
Analyze business processes, needs, and requests and recommend solutions using system standards and best practices.
Conduct analysis of system specifications and configuration then develop appropriate documentation. Write specification documents for development and other efforts. Develop conversion and system implementation plans.

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree; MS or MBA preferred.

Harmonix, a video game company located in Central Square, is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to manage production web servers and back-end game servers. This person runs a two-person operations team, with a primary focus on the production environment. The team is also responsible for managing servers in the development, QA and staging environments.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and willing to go the extra mile to get projects done on-time and correctly. Since this is an operational support role that works closely with other groups, good communication skills are a must.

Responsibilities:

* Manage high-volume public apache web servers

* Be involved in the 24×7 emergency response process

* Perform website updates and back-end code releases as required by development team

* Work with other team members to build a highly scalable environment

* Work with other team members to create process automation to speed code deployments and automate common tasks

Required Qualifications:

* 4+ years of Linux system administration experience

* Experience with managing and building large public facing services

* Able to use shell, Perl or Python scripting to automate systems administration tasks

Desired Qualifications:

* Deep knowledge of Linux, preferably with knowledge of kernel internals

* Extensive experience troubleshooting problems

* Experience with high traffic, internet-facing Apache websites.

* Experience with MySQL administration. Bonus points for those familiar with troubleshooting performance and replication issues.

* Network and service monitoring using Nagios

* Build automation with Kickstart and Puppet

* vmware ESX

* Windows 2003 server administration

* System security skills such as system auditing, iptables configuration, intrusion detection, etc.

* Network infrastructure skills such as switch/router configuration and load balancer administration

* Familiarity with Perforce or some other source control system

* Experience working with developers to release application updates and patches with minimal downtime.

Description:

Data networking, TCP/IP, OSI model, LAN/WAN, Cisco routing and switching, Cisco Unity and VoIP, Firewalls, IPsec VPN

Responsibilities include:

- Support, monitor, maintain and enhance WAN/LAN infrastructure supporting business-critical customer service

- Support Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, phones, VPN concentrators; Juniper NetScreen firewalls

- Build / support connections for site-to-site VPNs and for user remote access

- Move/Add/Changes to VoIP phones and related infrastructure

- Troubleshoot and quickly resolve network issues

Required Skills & Experience:

1.) Thorough understanding of data networking, TCP/IP and OSI model

2.) 5+ years of experience supporting firewalls, IPsec VPNs, routers & switches preferably in a 24×7 Data Center environment

3.) Intermediate to advantaged knowledge & experience with Cisco switching and routing

4.) Familiarity with Solarwinds, Wireshark and other network management and troubleshooting tools

5.) Flexibility to deal with changing requirement, departmental directives and requests.

6.) Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and time management proficiency

7.) Beginner-to-intermediate skills with Cisco Unity, Cisco phone and voice-mail administration.

8.) Basic skills in Routing Protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP), VLANs

9.) Project, inventory and analysis skills for investigating potential savings in maintenance contracts such as Cisco Smartnet

Job Requirements:

The candidate shall have a broad background in messaging technologies and shall have demonstrated proficiency in the following areas:

• Strong understanding of email infrastructure and architecture

• Proficiencies with open source email servers like Qmail, Postfix or Sendmail

• Strong understanding of DNS and how it relates to SMTP infrastructure

Job Responsibilities:

The candidate will have the following responsibilities with the potential of expansion:

•Researching and developing solutions to meet enterprise wide messaging needs

•Researching, architecting, testing and planning the integration of new messaging technologies and upgrades to existing platforms.

•Staying current with new technologies, and industry best practices, particularly those dealing with messaging based on industry “best practices”.
•Maintaining and troubleshooting SMTP internet gateway issues.

•Keeping documentation up to date for the messaging environment

•Testing and deployment of upgrades, hot fixes and other updates.

• Track and report on following metrics: deliverability, missing, bulk, complaints, spam traps, IP reputation changes at both campaign and IP level.

• Work with senior technical staff to optimize our IP address and domain configurations.

• Investigate and resolve problems with ISP deliverability working with senior technical staff, 3rd party vendors, and ISP contacts.

• Maintain email address hygiene and keep up with best practices to ensure best level of deliverability for all our campaigns (weekly, daily, and transactional emails).

Experience/Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
• At least 8+ years of relevant experience.

•Experience with in-house and commercial email campaign systems.
• Excellent problem solving, written and oral communication skills.

• Deep knowledge of SMTP, DNS, and related email concepts, protocols and methods are required.

• Strong working experience in Unix, Linux and Windows environment
