LinkedIn’s IT department is looking for a senior-level systems engineer who has experience architecting, developing and leading the implementation of various technologies and solutions. This includes initiatives that support the Mac, UNIX and Windows platforms; storage, backup, network, VoIP, video and mobile-based projects. Responsibilities include:
Understand technical needs, write technical requirements, create design documents and propose solutions. Pilot various options, design the implementation, rollout, support, documentation and maintenance plans.
Projects the candidate will be leading or assisting with include):
Expansion of data center space for IT systems, including overseas colo facilities
Drive the buildout of new offices and create repeatable processes to streamline future buildouts
Upgrade a distributed Windows server environment and lead the rollout of Windows 7 and OS 10.6 clients
Assist with the roll out of Exchange 2010 and BES 5
Expand and assist with the administration of MSCOM
Provide input to a new OD/AD/LDAP integration project
Work with the network team on a MPLS WAN deployment that will be supporting SIP-based end-points in support of Unified Communications
Assist with the rollout of a company-wide video conferencing system, including multicast streaming
Lead BCP/DR initiatives
Identify ways to streamline IT processes
Develop and improve scripts and tools that automate manual procedures
Contribute and adhere to standards including server builds, security, and documentation
Manage efforts in support of data protection and backup processes
Ability to balance multiple, concurrent projects and regularly communicate status and issues
Must be able to work in an autonomous, fast-paced environment with little guidance
Willingness to participate in infrequent weekend and on-call work
Mentor junior members of the team
Skills
10+ years experience in IT infrastructure, architecture and system design
Thorough experience with IT security best practices including security architecture review and design experience
In-depth knowledge of LAN/WAN communication technology. Knowledge of networking topologies, equipment, protocols, transmission media, and network management practices
Demonstrated experience with security infrastructure devices; firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS), intrusion protection systems (IPS), VPN, authentication tools/protocols
Strong technical and business communications skills including written documentation and presentation preparation and delivery
ITIL / CISSP experience preferred
Education
BS in Computer Science, MIS or an engineering discipline
